From the most humble jobs carried out in his youth to a top managerial career in automotive companies, from international experience as a freelance consultant to that of author, popularizer and entrepreneur in the consulting and training sector.

I am Luciano Attolico and in my life I have lived through many working worlds and held different roles. In 2009 I founded Lenovys. After 10 years it had gathered over 400 client companies and trained more than 25,000 people. Is it a success? I think my life has been a success to the extent that I have had the opportunity to dream and the strength to make my dreams come true, making work and business not an end in themselves, but a formidable tool to realize a long-term vision that goes beyond the personal sphere. And I believe that society could draw enormous benefits if companies became the place where excellence and well-being are systematically cultivated as a lifestyle.

"I think being successful in life means
first giving yourself permission to dream
and then having the strength to make your dreams come true."

The Manifesto and the
Lean Lifestyle Community

I have the ambition to help make companies places where prosperity and well-being are generated, where the economic and financial factor represents only a means and never the ultimate goal to have a profound and positive social and human impact. An evolution that transforms companies into places worth going to every day, where the dreams of entrepreneurs, managers and workers are born and realized with passion, lightness and pragmatism, where people's talent is developed, preparing them not only for professional excellence, but also for excellence in life.

To make this dream come true, I have developed a manifesto that summarizes the ideal characteristics of a Lean Lifestyle Company and I have created the Lean Lifestyle Community to collect the stories and testimonies of business men and women who share the same vision and who take a step forward every day to transform this dream into reality.

Author and popularizer

Through my books I try to collect the lessons learned along the way and make them available to my readers. In all my publications my personal stories are intertwined with those of numerous professionals and companies met along the way. For the Italian market I wrote Lean Innovation and Lean Lifestyle Strategy. I am co-author with Jeffrey Liker of the new Italian editions of the international bestsellers Toyota Way and Toyota Way for Lean Leadership. With the book Lean Development and Innovation I became the only author in my sector to be published in the United States and in the English-speaking market.

In my frequent public appearances I never tire of passionately and energetically spreading practical methods and tools to simplify the way of working and doing business, in order to obtain more results and more well-being at the same time.

Lenovys

No one punches a clock. No one is evaluated for the amount of hours worked. We try to live the company with maximum mutual trust. Everyone is involved in the generation and execution of strategic plans. Everyone is called to give their contribution and above all each of us is committed to the realization of a common dream: to be an example of a Lean Lifestyle Company.

A Lean Lifestyle Company is a visionary and pragmatic company. Lean, agile and digital. Effective and with great autonomy and responsibility of people. Oriented towards well-being.
When we have to grit our teeth, we do it all together without losing anyone along the way. When we have to celebrate and party, we do it without holding back. Our first office and registered office was in the archive room of an accountant. Today we have given shape to our professional home in a former industrial factory in Milan, a place designed to be lived in at all times of the day: to work with high concentration, to share ideas and projects, to have fun and relax. A place that continues to evolve with us. The next dream? To create a Lenovys campus in the countryside of Tuscany where we can transfer all the activities currently carried out in the other office in Livorno.

"Try to understand the dreams of your collaborators and help them realize them.
If you share the same dream
you will build great things together and go far"

My professional roots: Siemens VDO

During my experience at Siemens VDO I understood that a leader teaches more by example than by words and that if you want to help someone grow it is important to be next to them on their “playing field” or on the genba, as the Japanese say. The simple but powerful rule of genchi genbutsu, go and touch with your own hands where things are happening, would have led me to always spend a lot of time outside the office, amidst the problems of the operators on the line and my colleagues, with customers or suppliers.

I learned to stop and observe, analyze data, apply the principles of problem solving before making decisions, even in critical moments. And I tried to transfer to my collaborators the habit of taking responsibility for their choices and not carrying out tasks uncritically.

My professional roots: Magneti Marelli

I fell in love with Lean principles from the beginning of my professional adventure. “More value and less waste” has always seemed in line with my personal philosophy and I have concentrated my efforts in this area: Lean Thinking in companies and in life. I have always hunted for valuable lessons to learn and two of the greatest I have learned are those received from my mentor met during my first job as an engineer at Magneti Marelli.

From Masaaki Yutani, former Toyota manager, I learned that in companies and in our lives we do not realize the waste that surrounds us because we are accustomed to it. Often we no longer notice it, we no longer see it, but it continues to be there. Another lesson learned from Yutani is that until there is alignment in the company on what is value and what is not, it will be very difficult to move together, in the same direction, to create value and in search of continuous improvement.

Relationships with colleagues and collaborators

I have learned over the years that instead of holding someone back at all costs, it is more important to try to understand what their dreams are and help them achieve them. If these dreams coincide with ours, great things will be built and we will go far together. If dreams diverge, the sooner we realize it, the better it is for both of us. Real relationships, first of all. Then the issues of mere work. In business, as in life, the first ingredient to look for is mutual trust. Any business adventure is always a team game. If you don't create the right team, with the right people, you won't get very far. And the right people are not necessarily the most competent, but those in whom you can place the utmost trust.

The forms of my well-being

I don't think that you can really distinguish professional and private spheres, as we are a single multifaceted container of experiences and experiences that contaminate each other. In this way we give life to what the outside world perceives of us. We obtain our results as the fruit of the unique person we are. I love living emotions and moments every day that continuously feed my energy and my well-being at 360°. I don't wait for the evening or the weekend to live beyond work, but I try to harmonize moments of private and professional life as parts of a single whole, fighting the traditional paradigm that sees us busy at work all day and allocate small amounts of residual energy to the rest of the time and on the weekend. I love spending quality time and having fun with my family, traveling, reading and playing sports. I love the sea and outdoor life and for this reason I decided to live in a house a hundred meters from the sea south of Livorno in Tuscany.
