Filmar:
Why be a Lean Lifestyle Company
"In the face of an ever-changing market and the changes induced by digital transformation in the context of Industry 4.0, and with the aim of further improving our impact, we have embarked on a path to place at the heart of our activities the continuous improvement and personal enhancement, Lean Lifestyle approach. Starting from the shared definition of the company’s vision and mission, we have embarked on our journey towards improving processes, advancing innovative ideas and improvement in the perspective of sustainability and efficiency. People are more aligned towards common goals and above all see their potential being exploited. And this has become a driving force for change and growth. When you have alignment to values, people engagement, clear goals and continuous feedback, you can do anything. This has allowed us to do the approach of Lean Lifestyle. We have taken this path, and the results have been outstanding, which makes us certain that we will continue to do so."
Marco Marzoli - President Filmar
Filmar is a textile company that since 1958 has applied research and passion in the production and refinement of cotton-based yarns of the highest quality. With 130 employees and a turnover of 50 million (2021), in 2017 it decided to start a change path according to the principles of Lean Lifestyle Company.
The first step was to define the company vision with the involvement of all sectors Filmar -"Combining passion and Italian experience to become the guiding thread of fashion in the world. Innovative and sustainable creations to excite and make people feel good" - followed by the mission: "We produce high quality yarns for the best brands in the world. We select high-quality raw materials and process them with innovative production systems that are respectful of the environment, people and their safety. We ensure the market with timeliness and flexibility of response through the digitization of our processes and services. We add talent and creativity to give life to products of excellence designed to please and last overtime."
Vision and mission allowed Filmar to identify business priorities and define strategic projects for the achievement of agreed objectives. The valorization of people through continuous improvement was one of the priorities to start from. For this reason, an initiative has been organized that involves all employees of all departments to advance innovative ideas and improvement in a perspective of sustainability and efficiency. Up to now, 80 ideas have been realized and 25 have been awarded for their usefulness.
A practical example of corporate culture, that adopted by Filmar according to the Lean Lifestyle approach, which allows people to align with common goals and exploit their potential making it a driving force for change and continuous improvement.
The course was also enriched by projects of revision of the process of purchasing yarns (which has allowed us to improve the management of arrivals and consumption, reaching a saving of 5 million of the warehouse), definition of the new layout of the production departments, reduction of lead time by 60% and improvement of machine saturation by 12%. In parallel, targeted training activities on middle management and operating personnel (production planning, definition, calculation and management of KPIs, problem solving, automatic warehouse uses and inventory management) were carried out.
